Established in the 1930's, the dairy became a producer-handler in 1975. For 30 years, Founders Ed and Aileen Brandsma, now joined by their 4 children and spouses along with 75 employees, have worked hard to bring high quality farm fresh dairy products like milk and ice cream to customers in Western Washington. They are proud to have initiated their fifth generation of family members into their dairy business in the summer of 2003. Edaleen Dairy is one of the largest private employers in Whatcom County, Washington with 75 employees as well as employing over 100 additional people with distributors. They produce approximately 6,000,000 pounds of milk monthly. Their location, only one-half mile from the Canadian border provides Edaleen Dairy with a unique marketing opportunity to serve the Alaskan market. "The sides of our truck say 'Farm Fresh milk from our Family to Yours.' It's a true statement today. I don't know if that will be the case in a year," said Gary Vis, route manger for Edaleen Dairy and 16 year employee. The family owners have testified that the proposed restrictions on producer-handlers would seriously impact their ability to continue operating. You can make a difference!
